4 Alternatives to Dating Apps: As a society, we have become increasingly dependent on technology to help us find love. Dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge have taken over the dating scene, making it easier to connect with people from the comfort of our own homes. However, these apps have also created a culture of swiping and superficial judgements, leading many to feel unsatisfied and unfulfilled in their search for love. And don’t tell me about that friend of a friend you know who DID meet their hubby on Bumble. Lady Luck doesn’t hit us all.
If you’re looking for a more meaningful and authentic approach to dating, here are some alternative options that you may want to consider:
Join a Meetup group
- Meetup is a platform that connects people with similar interests and hobbies. It’s a great way to meet new people and potentially find love while doing something you enjoy. Whether you’re interested in hiking, cooking, or playing board games, there’s likely a Meetup group that aligns with your interests. I run a Black meetup and we’ve had a couple of weddings and some children! So this definitely works . But one has to stick with it and not expect something out of the bat.
Attend events and social gatherings
- Whether it’s a concert, art show, or neighborhood block party, attend events and social gatherings that interest you. You can really focus your want in your partner especially if you’re into something niche. This is a great way to meet new people and potentially find someone you connect with.
Volunteer for a cause
- Volunteering for a cause that you’re passionate about is a great way to meet like-minded individuals. You’ll have the opportunity to work together towards a common goal, and potentially build a connection with someone who shares your values and interests. It also gets you out of any winter lows that you may be feeling by helping those who have less than you. Giving back is good for the soul
Join a community organization
- Joining a community organization, such as a sports / book club, or religious group, is a great way to meet new people and potentially find love. You’ll have the opportunity to connect with people who share your interests and values, and potentially build a long-lasting relationship. Word of advice, even if you’re not the best at something you should still join. I can’t run fast but we all start at the same place, right?
In conclusion, dating apps have their place in our modern society, but they’re not the only option for finding love. Some of us are too jaded by experiences of catfishing and cheating on apps to go back so we need something different!
Happy Dating!
